Hosting
Requirements:
I've been online for 9 years, designing for 6 and have seen thousands of sites. As a result, I'm very picky. Basically, I require:
- Originality - And I don't mean just a blog with a few facts about you. Originality can come in all shapes and sizes, but your site has to have the little something that makes you stand out from other sites of your catergory.
- Quality - Not necessarily A LOT of whatever it is, but that content must be quality, not hurriedly made heap of cheap junk. I want to see that thought and consideration has gone into it.
- Quantity - Not as important as the first two, but have reasonable amount of content. Remember, originality and quality first!
- Hostee to be mature - You as a hostee has to be a mature and intelligent person. I want to host someone who shows thoughtfulness, common sense and intellectual maturity.
Examples that contain all the above elements are sites like this. And no, it's not an impossibility to be an hostee, check out iNet's first hostee. Impressive ne?
Note: while a well designed site is nice, I prize content much more. Don't be afraid to apply even if your layout isn't made by some flashy program with layers of brushes and filtering. If your design is nice even if simple, nagivation is clear and above all, your content is good, there's a very good chance I'd host you. If all you have is some trendy layout with no much content, then I advise you to look elsewhere.
What I host:
- Writing/Personal sites - Blogs with content, personality, wit, interesting and well-thoughtout entries and articles are a huge plus. I'm not talking about a line or two about what you think about abortions or euthanasia, but enough content to show you are an interesting and intelligent person.
- Fandom shrines - I am a fan of anime/manga/gaming/books and I will host those sites, provided that the content is not plagiarised from other sites (though content from other sites with prior permission granted is okay). I don't mind if there is a lot of media like image galleries and music sections, but I will not allow the upload of entire music albums (a rotation is fine though).
- Portfolios - Well designed portfolios are welcomed
- Graphic sites - Well designed free layouts/graphics sites are welcomed
- Review sites - Intelligent, thorough and helpful review sites are welcomed
- Music sites - I will host music rotations but I will not allow uploading entire albums. I'm aware that music rotations borders on illegality and so as long as you're uploading a few select mp3s of various music types that's okay. Remember in the end the aim is to share music and hopefully support the artists. I will probably not host sites that predominately uploads the newest songs released to avoid any potential legal problems.
- Other sites I haven't thought of - I don't think I'll host forums unless I know you in person. I won't host a fanlisting unless I'm a fan of that thing (so try and apply anyway), that goes for cliques and webrings too. Any other site I haven't thought of will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
Note: I highly disapprove of people using art of non commerical artists to make graphics (eg layouts), so your content has to blow me away like no other site has, in order for me to accept a hostee that uses/will use non commerical art work, unless you can prove you have written permission from the artist.
What you get:
You get lots of good stuff including,
- you.immortalised.net - Lovely URL isn't it? :P
- Space - Negotiable. I don't like limiting my hostees, especially if their site require the space to grow
- A crazy hostess - Unlike other hosts who require you to communicate everyday or something ridiculous like that, I don't (not that you can't speak to me of course!). However, once you're under my wings, I'll give as much support as you need, whether it's HTML, Photoshop-ing or whatever it would be.
- Bells and Whistles - All the technical stuff that comes with paid hosting; cgi scripting, perl thingymabobs, php, databases etc. I can install wordpress for blogs and phpBB for forums as well as set up databases.
- you@immortalised.net - Email forward. Amazing stuff. Only offered to hostees and friends.
- Freedom - I won't be monitoring you like a hawk. As long as you're not abusing your space, you aren't require to update any set number of times etc. This is because I'm very lazy and can understand procrastination.
Tips: Let's just say your chance of getting hosted by me will increase if you can show that you've at least looked around the collective to see what I'm like, no point in wasting both our times if your site obviously clashes with my tastes/principles. Another hint is that I like people with personality and at least seem like they are geniunely interested in iNET. The message box is that big for a reason.
Note:
I don't email back saying you didn't make it in. I don't like telling people awkward things like that, so if after a week or so and no response from me, then sorry, you didn't make it in. If you do want a reply email of why you didn't make it, just add in the comments area. However, I don't sugarcoat, so be prepared for honest opinions.
Apply:
As I've mentioned, I'm very picky. Unlike the sad influx of people who are desperate to get as many hostees as possible, I'm very willing to wait or invite people who I think are good enough to be my hostees. But I hope I don't scare you off! The form's below, if you think you've met the requirements, by all means, do tell me!
To apply, just send an email to me at b at immortalised.net (without spaces, and "@" replacing "at").
